How Alert can help you to shape the future of policing your community

Alert message sent 21/08/2019 15:36:00

Information sent on behalf of Devon & Cornwall Police & Crime Commissioner

Devon and Cornwall Alert is a really important tool in helping keep communities safe.
It allows the police and other groups, such as Neighbourhood Watch and Action Fraud, to send dedicated and targeted messages to those who sign up – and over 30,000 people have already done so across the two counties.
If you are receiving this message it means that when you registered you ticked a box saying you were happy to receive messages from your police and crime commissioner – and that’s great because it means I will be able to let you know key bits of information about the work we are doing in your area.
  • It means we will be able to let you know about our fight for more funding to help with the added pressure the police feel from the influx of visitors during the summer months.
  • It means when we recruit more police officers we can tell you how and where they are being deployed.
  • It means we will be able to tell you about our annual budget plans and how that will impact on your council tax.
  • It will allow us to let you know when I or members of my team are appearing at a public event in your area so you can come along and speak to us in person.
  • We will also use Alert to send out my monthly newsletter.
But it also means the public can play a key role in helping us set the strategic direction for the police.
This year our engagement team will attend around 200 events to talk to members of the public and at most of these we will be asking people a simple question – ‘If you were in control of the police budget – where would you spend it to make you feel safer?’.
Over 6,000 people have already completed the survey and the results will be really important in helping write the next Police and Crime Plan, which sets the strategic objectives for the police.
Being a member of Alert gives you the chance to take part too – simply click the link below and complete the survey. It is quite thought provoking but will only take seconds to complete.
I hope you will find our contribution to Alert valuable.
This week our team is at Holsworthy Show on Thursday 22nd and Cornwall Pride on Saturday 24th.
