Reminder about misuse of no entry sign on Fairview Road

Alert message sent 06/08/2019 14:32:00

Information sent on behalf of Gloucestershire Constabulary

The Cheltenham Neighbourhood Policing Team would like to remind road users of the no entry sign that is located on Fairview Road.

Recently misuse of the sign and nearby junction has been reported to us as well as a resident's concerns that drivers are ignoring the sign and using the road as a shortcut, especially in the morning and evening rush hours.

Work to monitor this will see the introduction of warning notices and enforcement action following a survey which was conducted in the area in August 2018 as well as the setting up of a community speed watch group which will involve three/four members of the public who can report back with any information they may have.

Sergeant Julia Martin-Jones said "My team are here to help keep the community safe and with Holy Trinity Primary School around the corner there are obvious safety concerns that I would like to reduce.

"Officers will be working with the local community to educate drivers about the sign and also ensure that warning notices or enforcement notices are issued to repeat offenders, this comes as a result of last year's survey which saw an average of 80 drivers ignore the sign per day.

"Anyone who wishes to join our community speed watch group is asked to please express an interest by emailing Julia.Martin-Jones@gloucestershire.pnn.police.uk or Steven.Benbow@gloucestershire.pnn.police.uk".
