A firearms surrender will be in place from Saturday 20 July - Sunday 4 August as part of a national campaign by the National Ballistics Intelligence Service (NABIS). A firearms surrender - as opposed to a firearms amnesty - means that people can hand in guns/ammunition anonymously, without being prosecuted for firearms possession.
Members of the public are encouraged to take firearms into the following police stations and hand them over the front counter: Abingdon, Aylesbury, Banbury, High Wycombe, Loddon Valley, Maidenhead, Milton Keynes, Newbury, Oxford, Reading, Slough, Amersham, Bracknell, Bicester, Witney, Kidlington (HQ South).
The surrender does not give an amnesty for the life of the weapon. Previous offences linked to the firearm will be investigated.

Last year, Martin Lewis took legal action against Facebook, for publishing scam adverts that used his image. A settlement was agreed, which included funding the Citizens Advice Scams Action service.
The service, helps support people who have been - or who might be, impacted directly - by online scams.
The service helps people through telephone, chat, website content and face-to-face support, for those who need it through referrals from the phone, or chat service.
People can now get help from Citizens Advice Scams Action via:

NEXT: I have been asked to circulate this request for help: ‘Give & Take Care’ is the group with whom we are working closely, on the sewing re-purposing course in September and the ‘Seed to Plate’ gardening course starting in February 2020, aimed at deserving young people.
‘Give & Take Care’, is still recruiting for the ‘Befriending Co-ordinator’ role. The post is based at Brunel University. It naturally involves visits to the ‘care receivers’. After Jane left, the person who held the post, we have been able to clean up the database, verify matches and do an overall reorganisation of our processes, so the new person in post won’t have a challenging starting point.
We are looking for someone enthusiastic and who has had some experience in coordinating engagement and volunteering schemes. The ‘Older Adults Befriending Programme’ is small and it would be a shame to close it down, but we will have no another alternative, if this last effort of recruitment will bear no results.
I am attaching the job specs in case you know of someone who may be interested. I really appreciate your help.

16/7 Tuesday 4 p.m. Agars Place. Burglary. The alarm sounded and some men inside made off. The police were called and attended immediately. They carried out an area search. Three men matching the descriptions given were located and arrested on suspicion of Burglary dwelling.

Purpose of the Role
Give and Take Care (G&TC) CIC
G&TC is a Community Interest Company (CIC) set up to deliver a scheme which will improve the social care model for older adults across the UK. It is an ambitious social innovation seeking to generate more care for the elderly by people in their local communities and more person-centred care. Having learnt that the community at large must be more resilient to allow for older adults to be better connected in it, G&TC is now also focusing on leading community projects that are the results of co-designed meetings in the different localities we are based in (Windsor, Dedworth, Ascot, Maidenhead and Slough).
This means that we promote our befriending scheme as 121, this is a modest scheme that has reached 40 older adults and has recruited 40 active volunteers, whilst also transition those who are able to group activities where they can be better integrate and socialise with larger audiences. We wish to turn older adults into assets for their community, e.g. to interact and be involved in community projects as volunteers, mentors or simply participants.
The role is key to the scheme’s success in the community. This role promotes and oversees the 121, but also supports the implementation of the community projects by recruiting the talents needed to make them happen. This means recruiting members and volunteers to the projects we are running, promoting the 121 and promoting the community projects and working closely with the other members of the team and outside organisations.
Community Development Support post:
The post will fully understand the scheme and the strategic development we are undergoing and promote it in the local community, recruit Partners for the befriending 121, match people in the befriending service, as well as support those who wish to take part in our community projects. It will also be important to drive the recruitment of volunteers who wish to be involved in group activities not just in 121 befriending, so that we can have the right assets and resources for our community projects.
This is a varied role and the emphasis on different tasks will change as the project moves into different phases. The role requires sound communication skills, intermediate IT skills with an aptitude to learn a new IT database, social media co-ordination, negotiating and influencing skills, time-management, people skills, organisational skills, attention to detail and a passion for the bigger project itself.
We are a small team with a big mission and therefore a positive outlook and problem-solving mindset is fundamental. This role will report to the director.
