Minutes of Woking NW Coordinators meeting 11 June

Alert message sent 23/06/2019 16:57:00

Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch

Dear Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator
The minutes of the AGM and meeting of Woking Association of Neighbourhood Watches on 11th June are attached.

Many thanks to those co-ordinators who attended, and to those who gave apologies.

I explained about how Woking NhW was following (and sometimes leading) the Surrey NhW programme of improvements. Many of these are around the creation of area networks that are social media based, but with traditional street-based Watches “underneath”. The benefits of the social media “super-Watches” is to cover a wider area and be able to exchange valuable information ‘immediately’ and so be able to identify potential crime, or provide value details on an actual crime, and report to the Police with all due haste. The street-based Watches will still be email-based (but can, and do, use social media themselves) and can plug into the ‘top cover’ super-Watches and receive (and report on) incidents and information in a timely manner. By doing both methods we retain and can expand on the tradition street-based Watches but also plug into the existing social media expertise, and so get the best of both worlds.

Inspector Andy Greaves was unable to attend or send a deputy, but the report he sent, which was read out, was detailed and honest and I urge you to read it. It is copied in the attached minutes.
If there is anything in the report that you require further details on please email me at Chair@Wanw.org.uk and I will pass them on to Andy.

We had a particularly interesting and entertaining talk from Mark Richmond who, with his wife, runs an organisation that helps residents of Woking who have fallen on hard times and want to get back into society. He has been very much involved in the improvements to Walton Court in Maybury – a centre and source of much drug-related crime in Woking. The Woking Police-led programme of improvements have proved very effective but work has had to stop before completion of the programme due to shortfall in funding from New Vision Homes. More on his organisation and Walton Court in the minutes attached. Everyone present will have, I’m sure, come away much enlightened and impressed with Mark and what he does.
