Essential Gas Upgrade Works in the Muir Street area of Hamilton

Alert message sent 12/06/2019 12:52:00

Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch Scotland

The following information is being circulated on behalf of SGN

As you may be aware, SGN manages the network that distributes natural and green gas to 5.9 million homes and businesses across Scotland and the south of England. We also provide the gas emergency service in these areas.

I’m writing to let you know we will shortly be starting our £50,000 project to upgrade the gas network in Muir Street, Hamilton. This essential work involves the replacement of old, metal gas mains with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply.

Following discussions with South Lanarkshire Council our project will start on Monday 1 July 2019 and last approximately six weeks.  We’ll be carrying out the work over two phases to help minimise disruption.
Each phase is described below.

Phase one – approximately three weeks
On Monday 1 July we’ll begin working in Muir Street, Hamilton.
To ensure everyone’s safety, both lanes traveling westbound towards Bothwell Road will be closed to traffic. A contraflow system will be in operation on the eastbound side of the carriageway from the junction of Portwell to the junction of Cadzow Park.
The pedestrian crossing outside Hamilton Museum is expected to be closed and a temporary crossing point installed.
Phase two – approximately three weeks
From Monday 22 July, we’ll continue working in Muir Street. Temporary three-way traffic lights will be installed at the junction of Lower Auchingramont Road to allow the final section of the work to be completed.

We’ll be posting regular updates on our website https://www.sgn.co.uk/Roadworks/Scotland-projects/ and using social media and traffic bulletins to keep residents and motorists informed.

Please feel free to share this information with anyone else who may be impacted by our work.

If you have any other enquiries about this project, please call project manager Jim Brown on 07773 545 321 during office hours (8am to 4.30pm) or call us on 0800 912 1700 outside these times.
