Essential Gas Upgrade Works in the Glasgow Road area of Blantyre

Alert message sent 06/06/2019 12:25:00

Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch Scotland

The following information is being circulated on behalf of SGN

As you may be aware, SGN manages the network that distributes natural and green gas to 5.9 million homes and businesses across Scotland and the south of England. We also provide the gas emergency service in these areas.

I’m writing to let you know we’ve begun our £190,000 project to upgrade the gas network in the Glasgow Road area of Blantyre. This essential work involves the replacement of old, metal gas mains with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply.

Following discussions with South Lanarkshire Council our project started on Monday 28 May 2019 and will initially last approximately three weeks.  We will then return on Monday 24 June for approximately four weeks.
We’ll be carrying out the work over four phases to help minimise disruption. Each phase is described below.

Phase one – approximately one week
On Monday 28 May 2019 we began work in Glasgow Road at its junction with Church Street progressing west to the Sport Centre.
To ensure everyone’s safety, temporary four-way traffic lights have been installed.

Phase two – approximately two weeks
From Monday 3 June we’ll be working in Glasgow Road progressing west from the Sports Centre to the Care Home at Victoria Street. Our work will be carried out on the grass verge therefore no traffic management is required for this phase.

We will then close the project and return when the schools close for summer break.

Phase 3 - approximately two weeks
From 24 June, we’ll be working in Glasgow Road at its junction with Victoria Street.
To ensure everyone’s safety, temporary three-way traffic lights will be in place. The lights will be manually controlled at peak times to minimise inconvenience.
We may also need to divert pedestrians on to parking bays meaning restricted parking and the closure of the bus stop.

Phase 4 – approximately two weeks
From Monday 5 July, we’ll be working in Glasgow Road, opposite number 252 progressing to number 242. We’ll also be working beside numbers 1 – 3 Station Road.
To ensure everyone’s safety, we may need to divert pedestrians on to parking bays meaning restricted parking and bus stop closure (previous bus stop closure will be reopened at this point).
Temporary three-way traffic lights will also be required for this phase. The lights will be manually controlled at peak times to minimise inconvenience.

We’ll be posting regular updates on our website https://www.sgn.co.uk/Roadworks/Scotland-projects/ and using social media and traffic bulletins to keep residents and motorists informed.

Please feel free to share this information with anyone else who may be impacted by our work.

If you have any other enquiries about this project, please call project manager John Gilluley on 07805 766 350 during office hours (8am to 4.30pm) or call us on 0800 912 1700 outside these times.
