Dear resident

A burglary has been reported in your neighbourhood
If you saw or heard anything or have any information about the below incident please call our non emergency number 101, quoting the reference number provided.
Alternatively you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at
www.crimestoppers-uk.org.

Reference: 20SH/117911F/19.
Location:   Streetsbrook Road, Shirley.
Date and time: At approximately 11:45am on Friday 17th May 2019.
Offence details:   The windows to two green Ford Transit Van's were smashed allowing entry into the cab area. The keys for tool storage boxes were then taken and used to open up the storage on the vehicles. The following tools were then taken:

  • Stihl Chainsaw x2
  • Stihl Ground saw
  • Stihl Handheld blower

Where possible please make sure house alarms are set when the property is vacant and high quality motion activated lighting and CCTV cameras are set up at the front and rear of your property.

Make sure that lighting and CCTV equipment is installed high enough not to be tampered with.

If your vehicle has keyless entry and you are concerned regarding the security of this feature then investigate whether it is possible to switch your car key's signal off. Check your manual to find out if your key has this function or ask your dealer if the system can be disabled.

Never leave your vehicle insecure or leave valuable items in your vehicle.

Installing a steering wheel lock, driveway parking post and/or a wheel clamp are great deterrents to car thieves. Please ensure that the keys to the steering wheel lock are kept separate to your car keys.

As an added protection against keyless theft you can also purchase a signal blocking pouch or tin and install a tracking device on your vehicle to aid in the recovery should your vehicle be stolen.

Please also make sure all windows and doors, both upstairs and downstairs, are locked and that you have invested in high quality UPVC doors and windows. This will drastically reduce the chance of you becoming a victim of this type of crime.
