Alert message sent 27/03/2019 11:17:00

Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch Scotland

The following information is being circulated on behalf of SGN

As you may be aware, SGN manages the network that distributes natural and green gas to 5.9 million homes and businesses across Scotland and the south of England. We also provide the gas emergency service in these areas.

I’m writing to let you know we’ll shortly begin our £490,000 project to upgrade the gas network in the Annan Road area of Dumfries. This essential work involves the replacement of old, metal gas mains with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply.

Following discussions with Dumfries and Galloway Council our project will start on Monday 8 April and will last approximately 16 weeks.

We’ll be carrying out the work over two phases to help minimise disruption.
Each phase is described below.

Phase one – approximately four weeks
On Monday 8 April we will begin working in the following street:
•          Annan Road (between Noblehill Avenue and Wellbrae)
•          Noblehill Avenue
•          Noblehill Place
•          Noblehill Drive
•          Morton Place
•          Chichester Court
•          Nithsdale Place
•          The Crescent

During this phase, to ensure everyone’s safety, temporary two-way traffic lights will be in place as we move east along Annan Road.
The lights will increase to three-way as we reach each junction. Our traffic lights will be manually controlled at peak times to minimise inconvenience as much as possible.
All our work during this phase will be carried out in public footpaths, except for work we carry out in Annan Road. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

Phase two – approximately 12 weeks
From Monday 29 April, we will be working in Annan Road at its junction with Noblehill Avenue. To ensure everyone’s safety, temporary two-way traffic lights will be in place as we move west along Annan Road.
The lights will increase to three-way as we reach each junction, finishing with four-way lights at Annan Road’s junction with Georgetown Road and Greenbrae Loaning.

During phase two, work will also begin in Parkhead Drive and Parkhead Loaning at the junction of Lockerbie Road, this section of phase two is expected to last approximately 4 weeks

Please note that while this project is taking place, we’ll also be working in Dumfries in the following areas: Lewars Avenue, Hardthorn Road and Lochside Road.

You can find more about our work in your area by searching https://www.sgn.co.uk/Roadworks/. We also use social media and traffic bulletins to keep residents and motorists informed.
