Essential Gas Upgrade Works around the Marchburn Avenue of Prestwick

Alert message sent 16/01/2019 10:42:00

Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch Scotland

The information below is being circulated on behalf of SGN

As you may be aware, SGN manages the network that distributes natural and green gas to 5.9 million homes and businesses across Scotland and the south of England. We also provide the gas emergency service in these areas.

I’m writing to let you know we’ve begun our £345,000 project to upgrade the gas network in the Marchbank Avenue area of Prestwick. This essential work involves the replacement of old, metal gas mains with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply.

Following discussions with South Ayrshire Council, our project started on Monday 7 January and will last approximately 33 weeks.  We’ll be carrying out the work over three phases to help minimise disruption. Each phase is described below.

Phase 1 – approximately 8 weeks
On Monday 7 January, we began work in Marchburn Avenue between Indale Avenue and Outdale Avenue.
To ensure everyone’s safety, we will install four- way temporary traffic lights at Marchburn Avenues junction with Outdale Avenue.
During this phase, we will also be working in Mossbank, Ferguson Avenue and Sanquhar Avenue.

Phase 2 – approximately 2 weeks
From Saturday 9 February, we will continue working in Marchburn Avenue at the junction of Adamton Road North.
Temporary three-way traffic lights will be in place at the junction for everyone’s safety.
During this phase we will still be working in Mossbank, Ferguson Avenue and Sanquhar Avenue.

Phase 3 – approximately 23 weeks
From Monday 4 February we will be working in Rowanbank Road leading back to the junction of Indale Avenue, St Quivox Road and East Road. These works will finish in East Road adjacent to Crosbie Terrace.
To ensure everyone’s safety, we will install three- way temporary traffic lights at this junction for approximately three weeks during this phase.

Sometimes we need to close a road, with the permission of the local authority, to keep the public and our engineers safe while the work is taking place. We’ll always provide notification if this is the case.

We’ll be posting regular updates on our website https://www.sgn.co.uk/Roadworks/Scotland-projects/ and using social media and traffic bulletins to keep residents and motorists informed.

Please feel free to share this information with anyone else who may be impacted by our work.

If you have any other enquiries about this project, please call project manager Dougie Eliot on 07879 431 965 during office hours (8am to 4.30pm) or on 0800 912 1700 outside these times.
