Woodnewton School Road Safety Week

Alert message sent 20/11/2018 21:46:00

Information sent on behalf of Northamptonshire Police

Officers from Corby NPT attended Woodnewton A Learning Community today to speak to the Junior School Children in relation to Road Safety Week and in particular bikeSMART.

We discussed how young cyclists can stay safe and how what drivers can do to keep cyclists safe:

Cyclists:

Wearing a helmet
Using safe cycle paths away from traffic
Cycling with a grown up
Cycling on the pavement
Not wearing headphones or using their phones while riding
Training such as Bikeability
Wearing hi-vis jackets or reflective clothing
Use a good set of lights in the dark
Crossing the road at safe crossing places

Drivers:

Driving more slowly
Looking out for cyclists
Leaving plenty of space when passing bikes
Checking carefully before opening car doors
Not parking on pavements

Well done to all the children taking part in this work today
